We will drive around the beautiful Reykjanes peninsula in a 4×4 to take a look at some of the main sights that are often overlooked by many, giving you a much more unrestrained look at Icelandic landscapes without competing with other tourists wanting that perfect view.
First, we will stop by the massive Kleifarvatn lake, which is surrounded by black beaches and steep cliffs; due to its location on the fissure zone of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, the depth and surface size of this lake regularly changes with earthquakes., Following our stop at the lake, we will take a walk around the Martian like atmosphere of the Seltún geothermal area, where the flow of hotsprings have discoloured and shaped the surroundings. Another hotspring on our trip is the reputedly haunted Gunnuhver, which has been plagued by the spirit of a woman named Gudrun for over 300 years.
Next we head to Krísuvíkurbjarg, a sheer cliff facing the ocean that is home to thousands of nesting birds, and the idyllic Reykjanesvita Lighthouse.
We will wrap the trip up with a short drive to a bridge which crosses a chasm caused by the rift between the Eurasian and American tectonic plates.
